The term Niche Market is widely used in internet marketing. It is often mentioned that niche marketing is the most effective way of marketing goods and services on the World Wide Web. To better define Niche Market, it is important to look at the roots of the words “niche” and “market”.

Niche comes from an old French word “nichier” which means “to rest”. It is also commonly defined as a word pertaining to a particular situation that fits a specific subject. Market, on the other hand, is simply put as the place to shop or the verb referring to trade of currency for goods.

In the world of Marketing, the word “Niche” refers to segregated groups based on their needs, interests, and kinds.  The idea of Niche Market, in a nutshell, is a specific group that has specific classification based on demography and needs.

Today, online marketing has created million-dollar businesses and has given people opportunities to earn income through the internet. It is one of the fastest-growing industries which had gained popularity all over the world in the past decade.

Identifying a Niche Market addresses the dilemma of small businesses in competing with their bigger counterparts. Once a specific niche is identified, small entrepreneurs are better able to reach their targets and focus their efforts to conquering the field.

Finding the niche market involves creating profiles for the public in general. The established profiles of end-users make up the “niches”. This  provides clear direction for niche marketing practitioners. Retrieval of data for these groups is a click away with the use of proper keywords.  Marketing campaigns are better designed to be more fitting for a particular niche. Thus, the effectiveness of the marketing campaign becomes more apparent.

The popularity of Niche Marketing has encouraged a lot of marketing affiliates to review current methodologies in attacking their public audience. Because of the variety of information on the internet which can be browsed easily by simple clicks, online marketers are more inclined to use the technique of niche marketing.  By defining their niche market, online marketing practitioners are better able set up programs and build up efforts to promote their products and services more effectively.

The key to effective promotion and sale of products is to narrow down the target market and provide specialized service. This makes the approach personal and focused which results in greater profit margins. The concept of Niche Market, indeed, has paved ways in creating greater impact in the world of online marketing.

The Keyword Phrase How Important Is It to your niche marketing efforts?

The use of keywords has changed over the years and all the experts seem to have their own opinion, and the biggest question, or discussion that always comes up is : “Are key words and key word phrases really needed? Here’s’ my take on this issue: Yes! Yes! Yes! Especially in Article Marketing. The key word meta tag my be dead but the essence of what the keyword does for search engines has not changed. Even when search engines base there rankings primarily website or article content they still need to use some means of distinguishing how the scanned sites need to be characterized and graded. , Guess what , keywords play real big into the equation. Why do you think you get penalized for key word stuffing? For example if your were looking for “fishing equipment” , I am going to search on Google using these same two words. You are probably starting to understand the power of keyword phrases. Google is going to go out and find websites or articles that have the key word phrase or similar key words you have searched for. Meta tags my hold no significance but the keyword and keyword phrase are still incredibly important tools to improve your internet marketing efforts.

Here are a few simple tips to generate a list of powerful keywords that you can use when you start writing your articles.

#1 – You need to have identified what your niche market is going to be. Niches, are a specific market derived from a much larger market. Lets take for example we are looking for specific information about article marketing services, the most broad market would be marketing , then your niche would be article marketing . This information could also be under the broad marketing of Internet marketing but your niche would still be article marketing. My keyword list would be generated from the two words “article” and “Marketing” combined together. If you have not identified what your market and what products you are trying to sell within that market, do not waist your time writing articles yet. You need to complete step #1 if you want to be successful.

#2 - After you have discovered your niche market you will be ready to move on and start developing your keyword or key word phrase list. First thing I want you to do is go to Google adwords and sign up for a free account. It’s free to join and their keyword generation tools are exceptional. .

Here’s a link to their tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

These free tools are very easy to use, lets use “marketing” for our example. Enter this phrase into the box that says Enter one keyword or phrase per line: Go ahead and try it, the keyword phrase results will would be way to competitive and non-specific to have any effect say if my niche market was article marketing. Let be more specific and enter the keyword phrase “article marketing” , Now were talking! This phrase is not near as competitive and has 100’s of key word phrases you would start building a key word list for articles about article marketing. Of course this is only an example you could use this technique for any market. All I do now is down load this list to my pc and I ready to pick the keywords that I will have the best chance to get listed on the search engines with. You will now need to prioritize and weed out phrases that are too competitive or have a very low monthly search volume, so pay close attention to the two columns in the report that have the headings “Advertiser Competition” and “Approx Search Volume:” respectively.

Pay very close attention to the green bar in the advertiser competition. If that green bar is over have half way across the box, delete this key word phrase from you list. I personally have had the best luck concentrating on key word phrases that the green in the rectangle box is less than ½ and the search volume listed is over 1000.

Now you are ready to start writing your articles. {I recommend you just start writing what ever comes to your mind then refine your article, it’s a bit like brain storming and works for me so I can get all my ideas on paper. It has been my experience it is better to just start writing your topic and let your expertise flow into your words before you worry about inserting your key words or keyword phrases.} Concentrate on writing articles that are from 300 to 600 words. It has been my experience that that the search engines seem to like content of this size and people tend to read your entire article without getting bored. And just click on to somewhere else. After you have written down your ideas its time to refine your article by inserting at least two different keyword phrases that refer directly to your articles content. Pay close attention to how many times your phrases are repeated, it is important that you space approximately 100 word counts between them. You don’t want to get penalized by the search engines for what is called keyword stuffing. Also , for example the keyword phrase article marketing automation or any variation that had the first two words the same then I could only be used them every 100 words. Count the number of words in your article and divide by 100, if I had a 300 word article I could use the keyword phrase say “home based business” three times spaced between a 100 word count. {You can mix up your keyword phrases so each word is not exactly the same but be careful. Of course if you get creative you could vary your words so they are not exact and get even more value out of this same phrase.}

Good luck on your article marketing endeavors ! remember keywords and keyword phrases are very important to identify your niche market when you write articles.

Fire Your Boss, Start an Online Business

With the horrible economic state and jobs being lost across the US, home based businesses are on the rise. People are fed up with the corporate world and are turning to online resources to start a business. Can the internet really provide a viable business? Historically we have seen the internet do amazing things and we have also seen it crash. Will there be another “Dot Com” crash? Well, sure there could be, but is that going to keep you from trying to tap into the multi-billion industry of ecommerce and web related opportunities? I know I wouldn’t.

Before you start an online business, consider the following;

  • Do you have money to start an online business?
  • Do you know anything about internet marketing?
  • What products will you sell?
  • Do you have your own products or will you sell other’s products?
  • How much money does your online business need to generate before you can quit your job?
  • Is your spouse or partner open-minded and willing to support you?
  • How many hours do you have to dedicate to an online business every week?
  • Will you have a partner or do it all yourself?
  • Do you have a business license?
  • Do you have any resources; web designers, marketing staff, programmers, etc?
  • Are you self motivated or do you need support?
  • Do you get bored easily?
  • Do you have any prior experience running a business?
  • Who is your competition?
  • Can you beat your competition?
  • And the list goes on…

Starting an online business is not much different than a starting a physical business. Although the costs can most times be much cheaper, the dedication and business strategies still apply. Many Online Marketers who claim to be Gurus, make the process of making money online sound so easy. In all honesty, it takes dedication, persistence and time. The average business owner will fail after just 2-3 years. The average internet marketer will give up after 6 months to 1 year. It’s easier to give up on an online business because you don’t have a store front and employees. Most online business start as sole proprietors out of a home office or garage. It’s so easy to walk away from yourself and your home office then to dump a physical building with employees. The truth of the matter is, both business structions are exactly the same, people just think of them different.

Starting your online business.

The best way to start an online business is to start with your hobbies. What do you really love to do in your spare time? What things do you know more about than most people? Is it photography, sports, knitting, wood carving, surfing, fashion, etc.?  Make a list of the three things you are interested in most and use that to build some ideas. Start with Amazon and checkout the magazine section. What magazines exist on your interests?  Also do some Google searches for your hobbie(s) and see what comes up. Keep in mind that other businesses who are already making money on your interests may have been around for awhile and have the authority in the market. How will you become the authority?

Do you have what it takes?

Starting an online business has many channels. When I say channels, I mean skills such as web design, coding, marketing, etc.? Do you have these skills or a team of people that you can tap into? It’s important to know that online businesses come with technical headaches. Everything from hackers, crackers, bugs in the code, computer problems, crashing hard drives, etc. The list of technical nightmares can go on forever so be prepared. If you are working with a team of talent, how will you mange them? You’ll need time to make phone calls, exchange emails and much much more. If you are planning to quit your job, how will you organize your business during the beginning?  This can be very challenging, so many people turn to virtual assistants and lead programs. You may need to get an extra phone line in your home office that can take voice mails any time of day.

Get Your Own Website

When you start your online business you will need your own website. It’s a good idea to have your own business branded website. Whether you have 10, 20 or 100 different websites, you still need a main business website with identifiable branding. Branding is everything when it comes to business and online ventures. If you hide under the radar and no one knows who you are because you mysteriously make websites late at night in your basement, you really have a lesser chance of success. So many people are afraid of putting their faces online and letting people know who they really are. Don’t be afraid of getting online and building your brand, this is what will make you more successful in the long-run.

Be the Professional

Be a professional 100% of the time and you will succeed. Even if you start a business based around your hobby and you don’t know everything there is to know, you can fake it. Haven’t your heard the famous line, “Fake it until you make it.” This goes for any business and everyone does it. There will always be times when you can’t answer every question and that is okay. You can always get back to your customers by phone or email at a later date. Thanks to the web, most information is available. You can ask questions on sites like Yahoo Answers or Google Groups. Part of your online marketing venture will be getting involved in forums, so you will have an army of resources to rely on, when you need help. Don’t let a few bits of missing information stop you from looking like the guru, the answers are only a few clicks away.

Do you know your competitors? Do the research!

When you first start your online business, you will need to do a ton of research. Find out what your competitors are doing online. What kind of promotions do they have? Who is their target market? Are they doing any paid advertising on Google, Yahoo, or MSN? What kind of products do they sell? Can you offer something better?  These are all important things to consider. Being successful online is all about finding a good niche/market and beating the competition with better products and creative advertising methods. When they are walking through the front door, you will be walking in the back door with your bag of tricks. You’ll know everything about them, but they know nothing about you and then you dominate take over. I can’t stress enough how important it will be for you to do good market research and discover everything you can about your target market and competition. Taking the time will determine how successful you really are online.

Conclusion

Starting an online business can be challenging at times, but with the right research, time and well though out marketing plans, your business can be a success. The goal is to never give up and be persistent. Remember that successful people do big things, they don’t wait for anything. Starting an online business is both exciting and scary at the same time, but one thing is for sure, it can be more profitable than any day job you’d have otherwise. Opportunities online are endless, it’s just a matter of finding the one that fits you!
